I am one of the partners that founded Westerberg in 2019. Prior to founding Westerberg I was a partner at Lindahl and before that Rydin Carlsten. At Lindahl I was the head of the Dispute Resolution Group at Lindahl’s Stockholm office and also head of the Eastern European Group.
I am a dedicated lawyer and am fascinated by the power of argumentation based on the thorough analysis of a case. I believe that to be successful in a case it is essential to understand the larger context but also to keep track of the details. Based on such understanding I enjoy working out the arguments and presenting them as convincingly as possible in order to persuade the court or tribunal. Besides a high degree of personal attention, I also try to focus on the result and resolution of matters. Thus, I have helped many clients to reach favourable settlements where such have been in the best interest of the client. However, I do not hesitate to take matters to adjudication by courts or tribunals if settlement cannot be reached.
I work with commercial dispute resolution, focusing on international and domestic arbitration and litigation. In particular, I have been involved in numerous energy-related cases, often with an East-West angle, in cases in the financial industry as well as construction cases. I am often retained as counsel in international arbitrations seated in Sweden. I have also been involved in several significant cases concerning the set-aside or annulment of arbitral awards. I also often represent clients in enforcement proceedings in Sweden. I regularly act as arbitrator in cases concerning both international and domestic matters.
Recent work highlights include acting for the Russian Federation in the set-aside proceedings related to two awards issued in the Yukos cases, which were set aside by the Swedish courts after extensive proceedings. I am currently involved in other set-aside proceedings relating to awards in both the oil and gas sectors, as well as in enforcement proceedings of international awards in Sweden. In a recently concluded matter, I represented Kaupthing Bank in a group action before the Swedish courts which involved more than 450 separate cases. Other than that, I have successfully represented companies in the finance industry in arbitration and court proceedings in Sweden.
I am proud to be recognized by the leading institutes in their ranking of Swedish dispute resolution lawyers. I am listed among the leading Swedish dispute resolution lawyers by Who’s Who Legal and Chambers & Partners Global and European Guides. In such listings, clients and peers have flattered me with quotes like “excellent legal skills and responsiveness”, “very charming and intellectually fluent” and even “he is one of the best lawyers I have ever worked with”.
I am a member of the Swedish Bar Association and the International Bar Association, Swedish Arbitration Association and several other domestic and international associations predominantly in the arbitration and litigation area. I am also active as a member of the ICC reference group in Sweden and in several arbitration and litigation networks in Stockholm.
Besides Swedish I am fluent in English and have a basic knowledge of German.
